Art Purge.
The end of my final year at uni has arrived, I have never been so exhausted and drained. I bought some new comics the other day which inspired me to pick up the biro again, here are a few quick doodles I've been venting out in between folio work... I also attempted some colouring in photoshop for the first time, safe to say I still need practise.
And of course, guns...

What inspires me..?
This is a tough one, I'm not the sort of person that spends hours admiring other peoples art. Work I find inspiring tends to stay within the same area... dark, explicit, in-your-face and grimey.
As soon as I discovered Frank Miller's work, I fell head over heels in love with it. I am a huuuuge admirer of his work, especially within the comic series Sin City. And, of course, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Whhhooaah! I can't really explain what attracts me to his work, I just think it is absolutely beautiful. The dark storyline was fantastic. I adore Miller's eye for dramatic lines, both written and drawn, it pulls the entire comic into a glorious whole.
Loving comics, I of course loved Watchmen. It is possibly one of the most engaging comics I have ever read. I couldn't put it down! I even endured bullying from small children while I read it on the bus to uni for weeks. It was worth it. The artwork is phenomenal and the story is so captivating, Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons executed the watchmen comics beautifully, the structure of the book is incredible. The book is full of visual rhymes & ironic contrasts.
Like I said, I like comics... so of-course Marvel is in there. Creating the likes of Spiderman, X-men, The Hulk, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Iron Man etc... Stan Lee is a legend.
Jamie Hewlett
If I have ever been jealous of anyone's artistic abilities, it's him. Everything he does is just, so fucking awesome! His characters are all amazing and desirable. His work on Tank Girl is... fuck, it's amazing! With crude language and explicit nature, having tits and guns shoved in your face at every moment possible, this comic is right up my street! He is also the father of the band Gorillaz, and I bloody love them too! Everything he draws just oozes "cool".
Street Art, I love everything about street art. 3000, Dr.Noki & Invader are among my favourites and Blek le Rat, the original stencil artist is absolutely one to be admired!
Keeping with the theme of anarchy. The whole punk & anarchy scene appeals to me, greatly. There's nothing I love more than seeing people stand up for their rights, fight passionately and give a big healthy "FUCK YOU" to 'The Man'.
Hmm, I spose there are lots more artists and thigns that inspire me... perhaps I'll come back to this at a later date.

OBEY. CONSUME. BE SILENT. AND DIE.
So... I've been involved in some heavy research about Guerilla Art lately and dug into some pretty interesting stuff. I came across this video which puts the feelings of street artists about the current economy pretty bluntly. I've recently discovered an abundance of street artists involved heavily in the current street art movement, not just in the sense of spray painting artwork onto a wall, but also artists such as Noki who tear apart designer clothes and hold an anti-fashion catwalk show. Other artists including Rammellzee, express their art through street performance, creating bizarre costumes from recycled materials and adopting a different persona and acting out many different God characters that he has created.
